Damage: Excavators often operate in complex conditions such as forests, mines, or demolition sites. Rearview mirrors are easily struck by flying debris, suddenly brushing branches, or falling clods of earth, causing the mirrors to shatter or develop radial cracks. Broken mirrors not only obscure the view behind, creating large blind spots, but sharp fragments can also injure operators.

Repair: Once a broken mirror is discovered, it must be replaced immediately. Mirrors are usually secured to the housing with clips or double-sided tape. To repair, first pry open the old mirror, clean out any remaining glass shards and adhesive from the housing, then align the new mirror with the heating wire plug and press it into the slot or securely attach it. It is recommended to use original factory mirrors with a shatterproof film, as they will not shatter even if broken by impact.

Damage: The ball joint adjustment mechanism behind the mirror is constantly exposed to vibration, and frequent manual adjustments can cause wear on the ball joint or fatigue of the spring. This will cause the lens to vibrate and shift during machine operation, making it impossible to fix the angle. The operator must frequently stop to adjust, severely impacting work efficiency and safety.

Repair:  If the adjusting ball joint is only slightly worn, try applying a small amount of grease to the ball joint to reduce dry friction and retighten the locking nut behind it. If the wear is severe enough to prevent positioning, the assembly must be disassembled, and the internal adjusting ball joint or spring assembly replaced. If it is a one-piece structure, the entire lens assembly must be replaced. After installation, repeatedly adjust and test its damping feel.

Damage: Rearview mirror brackets typically extend far out of the driver's cab. When turning or reversing in confined spaces, the mirror housing or bracket is highly susceptible to scraping and collisions with buildings. Plastic mirror housings are prone to breakage at joints or folds under stress, causing the mirror to droop or detach completely and be lost.

Repair:  If the mirror housing is slightly cracked, it can be repaired by welding with a plastic welding gun, with internal reinforcement using metal patches. If the breakage is severe or the bracket is deformed, it is recommended to replace the entire rearview mirror assembly. When installing a new mirror, be sure to apply thread-locking adhesive to the bracket joints and tighten the bolts to prevent loosening due to vibration. Installing guardrails can effectively reduce scratch damage.

Damage: Prolonged exposure to sun and rain can cause the silver-plated reflective layer at the edge of the lens to gradually corrode, resulting in black edges, mottled patches, or even large-area peeling. When the reflective layer fails, the mirror becomes blurry and dim, especially at night or in low light, making it almost impossible to see objects behind it, greatly increasing safety risks.

Repair: The reflective layer cannot be repaired alone; the lens must be replaced. When replacing, pay attention to the electric heating plug behind the lens; disconnect the plug before removing the old lens. Clean the inside of the mirror housing of moisture and dirt to prevent the new lens from being corroded again. If the original car mirror has an anti-glare function, be sure to use a lens of the same specification to ensure effective protection against strong light at night.
