Causes of Damage: The core principle of an electromagnetic horn relies on the frequent switching of contacts, causing an electromagnet to drive a diaphragm to vibrate and produce sound. During excavator operation, the high current and intense vibration can easily lead to contact erosion and oxidation due to electric arcing, resulting in increased contact resistance and poor power flow. Simultaneously, prolonged high-frequency vibration of the diaphragm can cause metal fatigue and even cracking, leading to a hoarse or non-existent sound.

Repair Method: Disassemble the horn housing and carefully polish the eroded copper contacts with fine sandpaper or a contact file to restore their smoothness. Inspect the diaphragm for cracks or deformation; minor deformation can be corrected, but cracks necessitate replacement.

Common Causes: The horn coil may overheat due to prolonged whistling, excessively high system voltage (such as a generator regulator malfunction), or internal moisture causing insulation degradation. This leads to damage to the enameled wire insulation, resulting in an inter-turn short circuit or complete burnout. Symptoms include the horn not working at all, and the measured coil resistance being infinite or far below the standard value.

Repair Method: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the coil. If the resistance is infinite (open circuit), or the resistance is abnormally low and has a burnt smell (short circuit), the entire electromagnetic coil must be replaced. When replacing, select a high-quality coil with the same wire diameter, number of turns, and impedance as the original, and ensure it is securely installed. Simultaneously, the root cause of the coil burnout must be investigated (such as voltage issues) to prevent recurrence.

Causes of Damage: Excavators operate in damp, dusty environments, making the horn's metal terminals (especially the exposed positive terminal and the grounding point via the mounting bracket) highly susceptible to oxidation and corrosion, resulting in high resistance. This can lead to insufficient voltage supply, weak horn sound, or intermittent operation. Excessive paint on the mounting bracket can also cause a poor grounding circuit.

Repair Method: Thoroughly clean the horn's positive terminal and the grounding point connected to the frame, removing all rust and dirt until the metal is exposed. Apply a small amount of conductive grease or petroleum jelly to the terminals to prevent oxidation and tighten all screws. For poor grounding, try connecting the horn housing directly to a known good grounding point on the frame using a short wire to test and establish a reliable grounding circuit.

Causes of Damage: Aging and damage to the seals of the speaker's dustproof and waterproof housing or diaphragm can allow mud, dust, and humid air to penetrate. This accelerates contact oxidation, causes coil insulation degradation due to moisture, and can even lead to jamming of internal moving parts (such as the armature), resulting in altered sound quality or complete malfunction.

Repair Method: Disassemble the speaker and thoroughly clean all internal components with anhydrous alcohol or a specialized electrical cleaner to remove grease and rust. Inspect and replace all aged rubber seals or diaphragms. For adjustable armature clearances, readjust to standard settings after cleaning. During assembly, apply an appropriate amount of sealant to all mating surfaces to ensure a tight seal. For machines operating in extreme environments, an additional waterproof and dustproof cover can be installed on the speaker.
