Damage: Frequent starting and stopping of the excavator cab's air conditioning puts the electromagnetic clutch under constant engagement impact and high temperatures, easily leading to wear and slippage of the friction plates. In severe cases, the coil overheats and burns out. Symptoms include intermittent cooling or no cooling at all, accompanied by a harsh friction noise. 

Repair: Check the clutch clearance and friction plate thickness. If wear exceeds limits or the coil is burnt out, the clutch assembly or compressor assembly must be replaced. Also check the belt tension to avoid over-tightening and accelerating damage.

Damage: The compressor main shaft oil seal rotates at high speed and bears refrigerant pressure for extended periods. The rubber material is prone to aging, hardening, and loss of elasticity, causing refrigerant and refrigerant oil to leak from the shaft end. Symptoms include oil stains on the shaft end after shutdown and a gradual decrease in cooling efficiency.

Repair:  For minor leaks, try adding fluorescent dye and observe. If a leak is confirmed, the shaft seal must be replaced. Because shaft seal replacement is complex and requires specialized tools, it is recommended to have it performed by a professional air conditioning repair shop. Refrigerant oil should be added during replacement.

Damage: Long-term high-speed operation of internal moving parts in the compressor, if poor lubrication or deteriorated refrigerant oil, can lead to abnormal wear of friction pairs such as the piston and cylinder, and the swashplate and slide plate, producing metal shavings. This results in decreased compression efficiency or even seizure. Symptoms include abnormal noise and failure to cool.

Repair:  If a large amount of metal shavings has contaminated the entire system, the compressor assembly must be replaced, and the condenser, evaporator, and piping must be thoroughly cleaned. The receiver-drier should also be replaced to prevent further damage to the new compressor.

Damage: A filter is usually installed inside the compressor intake to prevent impurities from entering. If debris or deteriorated refrigerant oil produces a sticky substance, it can clog the filter, causing obstructed intake, insufficient oil supply, and further exacerbating internal wear.

Repair: Remove the compressor and drain the refrigerant oil to check for impurities. If only the filter is clogged and the interior is clean, the filter can be cleaned and refrigerant oil and refrigerant refilled. If there is already wear debris, the entire compressor assembly must be replaced.
