Q:Will this compressor fit my truck with a C9 engine?
A: Yes, it is fully compatible. As long as your truck is factory-equipped with a Caterpillar C9 engine and the original compressor part number is 149-4915, this is a direct replacement. Compatibility depends on the engine model, not the truck brand.
Q:Is it normal for the new compressor to discharge excessive oil after operation?
A:No, it is not normal. A small amount of oil discharge during initial operation is possible, but continuous excessive oil indicates either: 1) High crankcase pressure (check the breather), or 2) A blocked internal oil return line in the compressor. This must be diagnosed and resolved to prevent contamination of the entire air system.
Q:After installation, why is the air pressure building up slowly?
A:Possible causes include: 1) Air leaks in the system (check all hose connections and tank drain valves); 2) A faulty pressure regulator (unloader valve) keeping the compressor in constant unload mode; 3) Performance issues with the new compressor itself (which is ruled out by our factory testing).
Q:Should I replace the air dryer at the same time?
A:Strongly recommended! The old dryer may be saturated with moisture and oil contaminants. Installing a new compressor without replacing the dryer can lead to rapid wear of the new unit and allow moisture to reach brake valves, creating a freezing risk in winter. This is our recommended "gold standard" maintenance practice.
