Damage: The rubber sealing gasket at the bottom of the radiator cap is exposed to high temperature and pressure for extended periods. Due to thermal expansion and contraction and the aging of the rubber material, it is prone to hardening, loss of elasticity, and even cracking or shrinkage. This leads to poor sealing, coolant leakage during circulation, and the system's inability to build up proper pressure, thus lowering the coolant's boiling point and causing engine overheating.

Repair: When cracks are found on the sealing ring surface or it feels hard to the touch, a new spare part should be replaced immediately. The sealing ring should not be replaced individually, as the size may not be compatible with the original. The sealing surface should be cleaned before installation to ensure the new cap forms a reliable seal.

Damage: The pressure spring inside the cap is responsible for controlling the pressure threshold of the cooling system. After prolonged use, the spring may weaken due to metal fatigue or undergo permanent deformation. Spring failure will cause the valve to open too early (insufficient pressure) or too late (excessive pressure). Insufficient pressure will cause the coolant to boil easily; excessive pressure may burst the radiator chamber or water pipes.

Repair:  This fault cannot be repaired by adjustment; the entire radiator cover must be replaced. After installation, a system pressure test should be performed to confirm that the new cover can open and release pressure at the specified pressure value. At the same time, check that the auxiliary water tank return pipe is unobstructed to ensure that the coolant can flow back normally after pressure release.

Damage: A small vacuum valve is usually located in the center of the radiator cap. When the engine is stopped and cooled, a negative pressure forms in the system, and this valve should open to allow coolant from the auxiliary water tank to flow back into the radiator. If this valve is stuck in the closed position due to scale buildup, the radiator will be unable to draw coolant from the auxiliary water tank, and in severe cases, it may flatten the radiator water chamber.

Repair:  Try using compressed air to blow away impurities around the valve body, or use a soft brush with coolant to clean it and remove scale. If the valve core still cannot slide freely after cleaning, it indicates severe internal corrosion, requiring direct replacement of the cap. It is also recommended to clean the cooling system at the same time to prevent impurities from re-entering.

Damage: This cover is mostly made of stamped metal. In environments using inferior coolant, the metal parts of the cover are prone to corrosion, resulting in pitting or rust on the surface. Frequent disassembly and reassembly can cause wear on the locking lugs that mate with the radiator filler neck, preventing the cover from locking completely. Vibrations during driving may cause the cover to loosen, resulting in a large instantaneous loss of coolant.

Repair: Inspect the cover's appearance. If severe corrosion or rounded edges on the locking lugs are found, replace it immediately. When installing a new cover, ensure you hear a "click" sound and check for any wobbling. During routine maintenance, apply a small amount of high-temperature grease to the threads or locking lugs to reduce mechanical wear.
