An exhaust gas turbocharger uses high-temperature exhaust gas (700-900 degrees Celsius) from the engine to drive the turbine in the turbine. The turbine shaft then drives the impeller in the compressor at high speed, centrifugally compressing the air and increasing the engine's intake air density to 2-3 atmospheres. This allows more fuel to be injected into the engine, thereby increasing its power.

An exhaust gas turbocharger consists of a turbine driven by exhaust gas, a compressor that compresses fresh air, an intermediate body that serves as a bearing support, and a bypass valve control mechanism.
