Worn or Damaged Planetary Gear Set
The multi-stage planetary gear reduction is the core of the final drive. Wear, pitting, or tooth breakage due to overloading, contamination, or fatigue will result in loud grinding noises, loss of power, and eventually, a complete lock-up of the travel motor.

Failed Motor Shaft Splines
The splines connecting the hydraulic motor's shaft to the planetary gear set can strip or wear out. This is often caused by improper installation, excessive torque shock, or a misalignment, resulting in a loss of drive even though the hydraulic motor is still running.

Overheating of the Final Drive Assembly
Excessive friction from failing bearings, gears, or inadequate lubrication generates significant heat. A hot final drive housing is a clear warning sign of an internal problem that, if ignored, will lead to a catastrophic breakdown.

Travel on One Side Only
When one track functions normally but the other does not respond, the issue could be within the final drive itself (e.g., a seized bearing, broken planetary gear, or stripped splines) rather than just the hydraulic pump or control valve.
