Four Core Functions of Hydraulic Piston Pump

 

 

The excavator moved slowly and had no digging power

First, check the hydraulic oil level and quality. Insufficient or severely contaminated oil is the most common cause of internal pump leakage and pressure drop. Try cleaning or replacing the hydraulic return and suction filters to ensure unobstructed oil passages. If possible, slightly adjust the pressure compensator or safety valve on the pump (refer to machine markings), but do not over-adjust to avoid damage. This operation is only to temporarily restore some pressure so that the equipment can be moved to a safe area for maintenance.

The pump body emits a sharp whistling sound or violent vibration

Abnormal noise is often caused by insufficient oil suction or air ingress. Immediately check the oil suction filter and pipeline for blockages, and ensure all joints (especially the pump's suction port) are properly sealed. Try slowly adding sufficient clean oil to the oil tank return line and allowing the hydraulic system to run unloaded for a period to purge air. If the noise originates from inside the pump and is accompanied by vibration, it may indicate severe wear of internal components. In this case, stop the pump immediately to prevent further damage and potential pump failure.

The hydraulic system temperature rises too quickly, even exceeding the normal range

Excessive oil temperature is often caused by excessive wear inside the pump or improper system pressure settings, resulting in a large amount of energy being converted into heat. Emergency measures should first check and ensure that the hydraulic oil cooler fan is operating normally and that the heat sink fins are clean and unblocked. Try idling the equipment in a cool, shaded area and reducing the workload to avoid prolonged high-power operation. Simultaneously, check if the hydraulic return oil filter is clogged, as poor return oil flow will directly cause a sharp rise in system temperature.

Continuous leakage or dripping occurs at the pump body joint surface, shaft seal, or pipe joint.

Upon discovering an oil leak, immediately clean up the oil around the leak point and accurately locate the source of the leak. For loose joints, retighten them to the specified torque after cleaning. If the leak is due to aging of the shaft seal or gasket, as a temporary measure, a dedicated hydraulic sealing sealant can be used (added to the oil tank according to instructions), or a dedicated leak-sealing tape/sealing compound can be applied to the leak area immediately. However, this only slows down the leakage rate. Replacement of the seals must be arranged as soon as possible, because continued oil leakage not only pollutes the environment but also causes the oil level to drop, leading to more serious pump damage.
